I am 38 weeks tomorrow (Sunday)!
Just a few years ago, 38 weeks was considered full-term – but it’s not anymore! Now you have to be at least 39 weeks to be full-term. Did you know that?!
So – I am now what you would call “early term” – which doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as FULL term! LOL
I had my OB appointment on Friday – and of course, I took the girls! It was a great opportunity to practice my patience.
I had everyone fed, dressed, cups filled with ice water in the car, snacks made, hair done, packed appropriate listening CDs for the car, etc. We were ready for the 1 hour journey each way to the OB.
Of course, Violet (3) had 12 wardrobe changes before we left, including several options missing pants and other vital articles of clothing. Finally, I got everyone in the van and off we went!
An hour later, we pulled into the parking garage and had to valet (it’s the only choice). It’s underground, loud, and valets whizz by every second, driving unfamiliar cars and probably not watching for little kids. Stress!
Well – wouldn’t you know it, as prepared as I was…I forgot to make sure Ginger (5) had shoes on before we left! I put her shoes on her before we left, but then I guess she took them off before she got in the van. So, there she was, barefoot in a dirty parking garage – and because I recently cleaned out the van, there were no spare shoes!
She was so upset, she started having a major meltdown right there in the parking garage with a line of cars honking behind us! I had to get everyone out of the car – and thankfully, I had a double stroller stashed in the back – I got that out, and put the little girls in it (Ginger screaming, barefoot) – and made my way to the elevator to get to the OB office. Fun!
All joking aside, it ended up being fine. Ginger eventually calmed down, and Mr. M showed up a bit later and took the girls for some cookies in the lobby cafe while I had my cervix checked. That’s an activity I just don’t like to do with three kids watching, if I can help it. Hahaha.
Overall, the appointment ended up going great – and I am even a little (2cm) dilated. So…progress!
My blood pressure is doing well. I’ve had some headaches and visual disturbances, but they go away with rest and Tylenol, so it’s probably not preeclampsia. I’m just monitoring that and trying to take it easy as much as possible.
I feel like labor could happen anytime – I’ve had a lot of contractions – but then I also know it could be weeks! So…again, I am having many opportunities to practice my patience.
Baby can come anytime after Tuesday – when my dad (aka Grandpa) flies in to be our au pair while we’re at the hosptial! 🙂 The girls have been counting down the days until he visits since, well, November! We are all so excited to see him!
