Today I went on a beautiful date with Violet (4)! I’d been promising her we would go on a date all by ourselves (without her sisters) the very first day Mr. M had a day off work. And today was that day!
I told her we could go anywhere she wanted for lunch. She picked McDonald’s! 🙂
It’s funny because I haven’t taken the girls (or been myself) to McDonald’s in over two years! I’m not being a sanctimommy about it – It’s just that when we moved to our new house, it wasn’t convenient for me anymore…
So – anyway, it had been a long time since I’d been there. I was surprised how much things have changed! (I swear this isn’t a sponsored post by McDonald’s…haha).
First of all, they have all these premium menu items now. And breakfast all day! Where have I been?! LOL
We drove out of our way to go to our “old” McDonald’s – which is such a nice and relaxing restaurant (I’m not kidding). They had fresh flowers on all the tables, and a waiter brought our food to our table after we ordered. It honestly felt fancy!
Also, the high school nearby is on Spring Break this week – so the restaurant was practically empty. Oh, and they played Classical Music – which was so refreshing. It’s kind of a “retro-styled” McDonald’s – so maybe that’s why?!
Anyway, I really was Lovin’ It 😉 (Is that slogan outdated now? I also haven’t watched a commercial in YEARS!)
Violet spelled out our names in French Fries:
Mom and Her (Real) Name:
Then, after we were done eating – I took her on a grand shopping trip! We went to Goodwill! Haha
Seriously, though – it’s a NICE Goodwill. It’s across the parking lot from McDonald’s. So, we walked over there, and she got to pick out a few things.
She chose a Pooh Costume for her baby doll ($3), a new dress ($3) and a giraffe throw pillow case ($1). The pillowcase actually matches a rug we have!
Here she is checking herself out in the mirror at Goodwill:
Then, after Goodwill – I asked her if she wanted to go to the Library or Barnes and Noble (to read books). She said she’d rather go to the park, just the two of us!
So, that’s what we did! We played hide and go seek, tag, and I helped her on the playground.
I also pushed her really high in the swings, which she LOVED!:
Violet has the most easy-going, sweet spirit. Her personality reminds me of a young Shirley Temple. She’s so smart and quick – and hilarious. She’s one of those kids that you know could be a super successful child actress – her personality is that vibrant and adorable. She’s honestly so well-behaved and strong, and amazing. (I know, I’m her mom – I’ll stop in a minute…okay???)
BUT…I’m not putting her into acting. (Nothing bad against anyone else who has child actors) – It’s just NOT what I want for her childhood…
I’m just saying that she’s got that kind of vibe to her. She’s so much fun to be around – and I feel so much freedom when I’m with her. She’s a JOY to mother.
After the park, we came home and she tried on her new dress she picked out at Goodwill. She says she wants to wear it for her first piano recital AND for her wedding! 🙂
Sidenote: Did you know Violet’s favorite animal is the ANT?! Yes – lately she LOVES ants and wants to keep them as pets. She’s started making sugar water to attract them and putting it in little bowls in the backyard. The ants had a “swimming party” in one of her bowls last week and not many lived!
I had to “rescue” the ants before she could see what happened. You have to laugh or else you’ll cry sometimes!
Anyway – if you ever see an ant and Violet’s around – she’s going to name it and make sure it’s well-fed. Haha!
So, that was my little date today with Violet! I can’t wait for the next one – and I know she feels the same way (because she told me so a million times already). 🙂
