How is it already late November? This Thursday is Thanksgiving!
Evan will finish Dancing With the Stars on Tuesday. I’m excited about that because he hasn’t had a day off since the election (Nov. 8th) and he’s been working about 100 hours/week. So on Wednesday, he’ll be home for the day. Yay! He’ll be home until the weekend – but then he starts working on Bachelor (Bachelor Nick) – so I’m going to enjoy the time he’s home because it’s such a rare/nice treat.
Paprika (10) made this for Mermaid Linden this week. Paprika misses Mermaid Linden so much that she cries herself to sleep sometimes (really and truly). So, I’m going to have to figure out a way for Paprika to see her again…somehow!
I’ve been taking the girls to the park. Our days have been a mixture of very hot (90 degrees) – and then rainy, and I just never can predict what it’s going to be like.
Ellie (21 months) loves going to the park. She and Violet (5!) are becoming fast friends.
Ellie has almost cut out her naps entirely. I am not standing and nursing her during her naps for 2-3 hours anymore. She’s at least 35 pounds now, so it was just too much.
She will still fall asleep on me sometimes – and I treasure that. This was last week:
One thing that’s maybe going to happen soon is that I’m going to wean Ellie. We shall see! She’ll be 22 months in a few days, so younger than the other girls were when they stopped nursing. Paprika was 2, Ginger was 2 1/2, and Violet was 3!
But…I have been nursing constantly, with no breaks, for 10+ years now – and so I am just feeling done. It really comes down to the fact that Ellie has these razor sharp teeth and thinks I’m her chew toy, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. I have tried teaching her the proper way to latch, but she really thinks my body is hers and she has teeth like a shark.
Now, weaning her is going to be super hard because she is very VERY attached to it and she will scream and cry if she can’t nurse. It’s been so painful these past few months because of her very sharp teeth and chewing habit, so I’ve been trying to space out her feedings…but at night, she likes to think of me as her own personal pacifier.
Oh, and when she was about 7 months old, she decided that she would ONLY nurse on one side of my body – so my poor one side has been feeding this 35 pound child for over a year! Crazy!
I think I’ve had every problem you can have with nursing – seriously, every single one – in my 10 years of doing it. I had a particularly rough period that lasted about a year (recurring, constant mastitis and infections, including a literal hole in the top of my boob) when I was nursing Ginger. This situation with Ellie is just as hard – maybe harder because I feel like she might bite something off.
I know that was all TMI, and I don’t usually talk about nursing – but it’s been such a huge part of my life for the past 10+ years. I haven’t worn underwire since 2006! I’m ready.
In other news…haha!
Every day, I take the girls for a walk. Ellie is done with her pink car because she’s Miss Independent – and she won’t ever ride in a stroller…unless Violet (5) rides, too!
It was the same way with Paprika (10) and Ginger (7) when Ginger was this age. She would only ride if Paprika rode next to her in this stroller. The more things change, the more they remain the same…
This is just a cute picture of Daisy – who is seriously the best dog on the planet. The BEST. I don’t know what we did to deserve her. She is our constant companion and pillow. I sometimes think of her like Nana from Peter Pan (except I wouldn’t leave her to babysit the children – haha).
The big girls (Ginger, Violet, and Paprika) had their piano recital last week! I am going to see if Evan will upload the video. It was on a Sunday – so we had the recital at 9 am, and then he went to work right afterwards. I was so glad he got to see the girls play!
Ellie wants to start playing, too. She sits at the piano every day for at least 30 minutes and plays little songs to me. She is very bossy, and will get SO mad if I don’t sit there and listen to her. 🙂
Violet with her doll. She named her Fifi and she sleeps with her every night, and is always by her side:
Ellie loves to paint! So far, she’s just been doing watercolors.
She can make a mess VERY quickly with them. Thankfully, everything is washable. 🙂
Ellie loves running her hands under the water. We’re in a drought, so I don’t let her do it as often as she would like (which would be all day long!) But, she loves to stand there and wash her hands for as long as I’ll let her.
So, that’s a little bit of what we’ve been up to! I have way more to say, but my time is up. I’ll be back soon with more pics and news. 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving!
