This weekend, we celebrated our 12 year wedding anniversary. This year was especially great because our anniversary fell on Sunday (August 9th) – and Mr. M was off work both days this weekend. We had the whole weekend to spend together – such a gift!
We decided we really wanted to spend the weekend all together as a family – and so we did!
On Saturday, Mr. M took Paprika and Ginger to open swim at a nearby swimming pool. They had been begging to go to the pool all week because Paprika is convinced she can teach Ginger to swim. They both want to be mermaids so badly – they DREAM of becoming mermaids and swimming in the sea together.
Paprika is an amazing swimmer, but Ginger really needs to move along in her swimming skills to make her mermaid dreams come true! 😉 We tried regular swim lessons, private swim lessons – and Ginger wasn’t having any of it. Paprika volunteered to work with her on her swimming skills (with supervision, of course) – so that’s what we did!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I stayed dry with Baby Ellie (6 months) and Violet (3). We had tea parties, went swinging in the backyard together, and read books curled up on the couch.
Then, Ellie fell asleep in my arms for a nice long nap! Ahhh – bliss!
After Ellie woke up from her nap, we all walked to the park together and stayed until dusk. Here’s our little family photo via the selfie stick. I love getting us all in the picture!
Mr. M carried Ellie in the Ergo, so I carried Violet (3) all the way to the park on my back. She was ecstatic to get such a long piggy back ride! When we got to the park, Violet ran to play – and Ginger wanted to be carried! I obliged, of course – I love my snuggles, and I will take them whenever (and wherever) I can get them.
Ginger is 45 pounds, Violet is 38 pounds, and Ellie is 24 pounds! I figure this is my workout – and it’s why I’m always wearing athletic shoes these days! I ended up carrying Ginger (all 45 pounds of her) home from the park this way!
On Sunday, we woke up and made waffles for the girls. Then, we worked out in the garage together. Romantic, right?! Ha! We even opened up the box with my preserved wedding dress in it – for the first time ever in 12 years!
Paprika says she wants to wear my dress when she gets married and pass it on down to her children as a family heirloom. Ginger says she never wants to get married, she wants to have one child (boy or girl is fine), and she doesn’t want her baby to get married either. She actually cried about it for awhile when I suggested her child might decide to get married one day.
She’s got her mind made up, and that’s that! Ha!
The girls really wanted to go out to a restaurant for our anniversary, so we let them pick. And where did they REALLY want to go? Carly’s Jr.! (That’s their name for Carl’s Jr.)
So, that’s where we went for our anniversary dinner. The restaurant was practically empty because we went at an off-time, and we had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Violet (3) wanted to sit at her OWN table by herself, and so she did! She dined like a little lady off at her own table. After we ate, Mr. M and I danced around the restaurant together to the song “Don’t You Forget About Me…” The girls giggled, and thought it was so cute! It was all kinds of magical, really – well, as magical as can be at Carl’s Jr. 🙂
Waiting for our food at Carly’s Jr.:
Then we went straight to the beach for the rest of the day!
Me and my sweetheart!:
The girls had so much fun swimming with their daddy:
We brought our butterfly kite with us – it was the perfect day for flying kites on the beach!
Ellie (6 months) stayed nestled in the Ergo the whole time at the beach – she even snoozed a bit as she was lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves. Violet made lots of sand castles, danced in the sand, and waded knee-deep into the surf!
She also got knocked down pretty hard by a few waves, but it didn’t crush her spirit. She’s the type to fall down six times, get up seven. 🙂
This anniversary, I felt so grateful for the past twelve years. We reminisced about the good times, and the bad – and how amazing it is to be here together, 12 years later. My heart feels so full, like it might explode. 🙂
So, that was our simple little anniversary weekend – where we cleaned out the garage and went to Carl’s Jr., and stopped at the beach, and went to the park. It was magical, really! I am so grateful for the magic of real life…
