This weird thing keeps happening with my phone. Pictures from months ago will randomly show up in my “today” folder. Last week, I had all of 2015 import into my “today” folder! So strange. Needless to say, it was a nice surprise when some of my phone pictures from The Nutcracker back in December showed up today on my phone. I’m not sure if I ever posted them.
Ellie (then 1 year old) stayed home with Evan, but she wanted to wear a festive dress just like her sisters. 🙂
We sat front-row, center at the show – as we’ve done for about five years – and guess who happened to sit right next to us? One of my best friends from law school – Lauren Miller – who is now a big attorney and Young Adult Fiction Author (Parallel, and Free To Fall are her novels). Small world! There are no coincidences…
Violet (5) at the LA Ballet’s Nutcracker performance:
Back to the present day. The girls’ sleep schedules are ALL over the map. They all sleep at different times – some stay up late, and some go to bed very early. Ellie (2) sometimes just falls asleep ON me. Ha!
Evan and I ended up watching an entire movie with Ellie asleep on me like this. 🙂
Speaking of movies, last week we had a doozy of a rainstorm. It rained for days! One day, we stayed indoors and I watched Gone With The Wind with Ginger (7) and Violet (5). We watch with subtitles, so it helps Violet’s reading. 😉
Anyhoo – it took us ALL day to watch the movie because every five seconds, they’d have me pause it to explain things. We talked about The Civil War, Civil Rights, The South, The North, Slavery, Abraham Lincoln…and that’s just the start of it! We talked about bias in media, how unfair roles were for African Americans in Hollywood when the movie was made, how they made the movie, etc. Then we started talking about the original book by Margaret Mitchell… We ended up watching the movie with my laptop nearby, and for every question they had…we’d stop and look up resources online (wikipedia, etc.) to explain more about it.
It was fun and it was exhausting! Haha.
After about four hours (and we were only halfway through), I needed to put Ellie down for a nap. So, when I came back about half an hour later, Violet (5) and Ginger (7) were both sobbing. They said:
We didn’t know so many people DIED!!! So many dead people in this movie!
And that was the end of our Gone With The Wind viewing for the day.
But, you know what they say: Tomorrow is another day!
When it wasn’t raining, we spent lots of time outside. We did “school” last week outdoors – which was very fun…
The girls always must have snacks for school:
I needed to go to the doctor today, so the girls came with me. When we were in the lobby, I took this picture of Ginger – it kind of shows her shark teeth. She basically has two rows of teeth – her adult ones, behind her baby ones. I’m going to take her to the dentist to deal with it – but I’ve been waiting to see if they’d come out naturally. We’ve all been very patient – but she has A LOT of teeth at the moment! Ah, to be 7 years old. 🙂
Just a cute one of Ellie:
Oh, I downloaded Snapchat and we’ve been playing with the filters. Ellie was particularly fascinated by this one:
I sent this photo to Evan and it freaked him out. Haha!
Drawing by Violet (5):
Our biker gang – Ellie (2) needs a tricycle, don’t you think?! 🙂
Ginger reading to Ellie – I love it when they read to each other. Ginger, especially, is a very patient reader and will read for hours to her little sisters.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
