Today, Ginger (6) started on Pre-Team at gymnastics! She was SO excited, she was about to burst!
I told her on Friday that she’d been asked to move up to Pre-Team – and I wish I’d had my video camera rolling. I never could have expected her reaction. She about hit the ceiling. You would’ve thought she’d won the lottery, or an Olympic Gold Medal, or gotten her acceptance to Hogwarts.
She was THAT excited. She leaped around the living room for half an hour, dancing and exclaiming: They want ME for the pre-team? Me?!!!
It was pretty adorable.
So, today was the big day for her to start! Violet (4) was SO happy for Ginger on Friday when we told them. She kept saying things like: I’m so proud of you! You’re going to do awesome. You deserve this – you’re such a hard worker. One day I hope I can be on pre-team with you so we can be together, but until then, I’m really happy for you…
Just stuff like that…
Then, today the REALITY of it set in for Violet. She was SO sad she wouldn’t have her best friend in class with her. She took it pretty hard today – and cried a little after her class ended, when she had to watch Ginger through the glass practicing with the pre-team.
Sometimes it’s hard being the little sister!
But the good news is that, in addition to practicing with the Pre-Team, Ginger’s going to keep going to the Rec Class one day/week with Violet! We really love her coach on one of the days – and so it seemed like a good idea to keep that one day the way it is for now. Violet is so relieved she’ll get one day/week with Ginger. You would think they’d get sick of each other since they’re together 24/7 and they often sleep in the same bed holding each other. But, nope! They really are that close. It’s crazy!
One (tiny) downside is that now the rest of us are all waiting around at gymnastics for longer, since the Pre-Team practices longer! Violet’s class ends 30 minutes before Pre-Team ends – so she has a little wait now, too. But, it’s not a big deal…
I had to laugh at myself today – because as I was walking around the outside of the building for an hour and a half today, I kept trying to watch Ginger and Violet practice. I always watch them – but especially Ginger today since I was nervous for her a little. (She was SO nervous, oh my goodness).
The gymnastics building is basically a converted airplane hanger or warehouse in an industrial district. Not fancy or glamorous. So, they have these huge doors at the back that open up – and so I stood across the parking lot and ZOOMED in with my camera to see how she was doing! Haha. You really can’t see what’s going on when you’re inside the building. You have to walk around the back of the building and be sneaky. 🙂
But, I didn’t want to distract them or LOOK like I was peeking – so you know…the zoom on my phone had to do! 😉
Miss Ellie Belly (14 months) is my partner in crime… She hangs out in the Ergo and watches me. Then, eventually she gets too tired and falls asleep while I do my laps around the parking lot.
Ginger did a great job today and fit right in like she’d always been on Pre-Team!
Anyhoo – I am so proud of Miss Ginger! I think about how much social anxiety she had a few years ago, and now she’s a confident little girl! (Well, mostly…) It’s amazing what a few years can do. Today was a happy day. 🙂
