We had a Merry Little Christmas Day at our house. The girls woke up early for them…after sleeping for about three hours the night before. They were so excited, they couldn’t sleep a wink. We had monkey bread for breakfast from a local bakery, and then opened presents from Santa.
Every year, I think we didn’t get the girls enough presents, since I tend to under buy. And then every year, they are so happy with each and every little thing.
They like to open presents one at a time, and then play with each gift for awhile before opening the next present. This means it can take an hour to open two presents. So, we usually take half the day to open gifts, and we have lunch in between.
I know not everybody does that, but by now, it’s tradition in our house!
Ginger asked for a few books for Christmas, and she had to read every one aloud as soon as she opened them:
I am happy to report that Santa brought Ginger a guitar! She was so happy she almost burst.
She hasn’t stopped playing it since the minute she unwrapped it:
The girls made surprise gifts for each other without us knowing. Violet (4) made secret drawings for everyone and wrapped them herself:
Violet really wanted a drum. Wish granted!
She was so happy, she kept hugging her little drum:
Ginger got a stethoscope, which she’s had on her wish list for a year. She listened to everyone’s heartbeat – even Daisy Dog’s!
This was Ellie’s first Christmas – she was so excited to be in the middle of everything.
She loved all her gifts so much! She got a toddler band in a box, and a bunch of musical little toys. Ellie LOVES music so much – she was thrilled!
Paprika bought everyone presents with money she had saved from her birthday, etc. She always thinks of the most thoughtful gifts. She bought Ginger this little stuffed dog named “Bo” – which is similar to a dog in Ginger’s favorite YouTube Series, Dogcraft. Ginger was so excited! It was her favorite present, next to her guitar:
Paprika’s big gifts were an underwater camera and a snorkel set – all Aquatic Themed, of course – since she wants to be a Professional Mermaid (and an author, illustrator, and a mom) when she grows up. We took her swimming the very next day so she could try it all out. I’ll have to post pictures of that in my next post.
After presents, we ate a big feast catered by my personal chef, Whole Foods! We ordered a meal ahead of time, and we had all the traditional fixings, without the traditional mess. 🙂 I keep saying I’ll cook the Christmas meal one day, when my youngest is five years old. But, Whole Foods does such a great job, I don’t know if I will. Ha! Maybe if the girls will eat more than just dinner rolls, I might cook. 🙂
It was just great spending the holidays together, and Mr. M even had the time off work! I got him a Brawndo shirt from the movie Idiocracy. He thought it was the best thing ever (or so he said)!
All in all, we had ourselves a Merry Little Christmas. I am so grateful for everything – being together is the best Christmas gift of all. That, and a house filled with music. 🙂
