I know I mentioned it a little bit before – one of my favorite things right now is taking the girls on secret dates! Basically, it’s quality one-on-one time, whenever we can sneak it in. They LOVE it and look forward to it all week. Sometimes it’s something more formal like going out to lunch – and other times, it’s just a walk around the neighborhood after daddy gets home from work.
On Monday, I took Paprika (9) and Ellie (8 months) out to lunch at Islands, Paprika’s favorite restaurant! We hadn’t been on a date here in over a year! It was just like old times – well, except Ellie was out of my tummy and I wasn’t puking in the parking lot from morning sickness. 🙂
Ellie was the perfect dining companion! I timed it really well. She was rested, fed, and we didn’t stay long. I am learning as I go. 🙂
After lunch, we walked around the mall for a few hours. It’s been completely remodeled – so everything looked new to me. We made wishes in the fountain – one of our favorite things to do! Paprika always tells me her wishes, and I hope she always does!
At Pottery Barn, they had this amazing ocean-themed Christmas Tree. It was spectacular! I hardly ever go into stores like this – so when I do, it’s almost sensory overload! Everything looked JUST like a catalog. (Imagine that! Ha!) Anyhoo – it was beautiful, and Paprika had me take a photo of every ornament on the tree. My little mermaid loves the ocean. 🙂
One funny thing Paprika always does when we go to the mall is she LOVES to pretend to be a mannequin. I pretend I can’t find her – and she blends in perfectly. You can’t see her at all, right?!
On Tuesday, I took Ginger (6) out on a little date to our special spot – Barnes and Noble! Paprika likes it when Ellie comes on our dates – but Ginger wants me all to herself. I get it! It just means my dates with Ginger tend to be a little shorter. If I get a text from Daddy that Ellie is hungry or fussy, we rush home. 🙂
This night, Ellie was happy so we stayed for a few hours at Barnes and Noble – reading books, and hanging out in the Cafe together.
Ginger looks forward to these dates ALL week long. And then, she’s happy to come home to her sisters, her live-in best friends. 🙂
For Violet (3), I have special snuggle and reading time with her every night just the two of us. And every morning we paint with watercolors and have breakfast together (because she’s the first one awake!) Our little morning and evening rituals fill her cup quite well, and I start to notice if we miss a few days. She thrives on that one-on-one connection!
We also go on lots of walks together. Since it’s getting dark so early now, sometimes I put a camping headlamp on her and we walk the neighborhood together. Sometimes I put her in the Ergo and carry her for a long walk. That is probably her favorite thing of all.
And that’s our simple secret date ritual. 🙂
