We decorated the house for Christmas this week! The girls always get so excited to put up decorations, so one day I got out all the Christmas boxes and let them decorate the whole house. They had the best time, working together, and they were so happy.
Many of our ornaments are from the old people who owned our house. We have so many beautiful ornaments from them, and so our tree is brimming with both old and new (to us) decorations.
I don’t mind if the lights are lopsided, or if the garland is only on the bottom of the tree…I just love watching them decorate the tree and the house!
It’s become a tradition over the last five years or so that the girls will decorate the house when Mr. M is at work – and then surprise him when he gets home. I told him – don’t worry – he still gets to hang the stockings! 🙂
We started our Lego Advent Calendar on December 1st. The girls take turns opening it each day – and then they play with the little toy inside together.
Violet (4) REALLY wanted the snowman – which I discovered (via YouTube) is on Day 4. She was so sad when, on Day 1, it wasn’t the snowman. So, on Day 2, we let her open the snowman from Day 4. 🙂
The girls on Day 1 with the Lego Advent Calendar:
I think next year, I might just get some chocolate candies and make my own Advent Calendar. The Lego Advent Calendar is always fun – but I think chocolate is always fun, too. 🙂
This is Miss Ellie’s First Christmas (outside the womb, that is!) She was such a little helper to her big sisters, and had so much fun looking at the lights and playing with the ornaments. She loves to touch everything, and she is so curious.
Ginger has been “practicing guitar” using this T-Ball Bat. She gets so upset if anyone else touches the bat because it is her guitar (and she takes very good care of it).
I have a Grip ‘n Grab– literally, this thing is my FAVORITE parenting tool. Maybe that makes me sound old, but I love that I don’t have to bend down to pick up toys off the floor! Haha.
Anyway, Ginger uses my Grip ‘n Grab as a microphone – she will play guitar on the T-Ball Bat and sing into the Grabber. I have made a few videos of it because her songs are so sweet. She asks every day if Santa will bring her a guitar for Christmas. It’s her Christmas wish. 🙂
When we’re not in Holiday-mode, we’ve been spending time at Gymnastics! Ginger (6) and Violet (4!) are still going a few times/week, and loving it.
This is the girls outside the gym earlier this week, when we arrived a few minutes before their class:
Ginger and Violet before their class:
Paprika brings her iPad and does school work, reads books, or plays Minecraft while she waits. She has made a friend of this other little girl (also 9 years old) – and they love to play Minecraft together on their iPads. It’s really sweet. They are there about 2 hours waiting – so they have lots of time to hang out.
Other things we’re up to?
Paprika (9) was named Student of the Week this week at her Music School where the girls take piano. She is playing the Happy Farmer by Schumann, and a few other pieces. She loves to play the themes from video games – so she’s been working on Kate’s Theme from Nancy Drew, as well as the theme from Child of Light.
Both Paprika and Ginger got medals this week at piano for leveling up. Basically, it’s an incentive program that they do to motivate kids. They were so excited for their medals (especially Ginger, since it was her first one!)
Oh, and we are starting Book 7 of Harry Potter. Back in March, we started reading aloud Book 1 as a family, and a few nights ago, we finished Book 6! Mr. M reads to the girls before bedtime, and it’s been such a happy and fun thing for them to do. I was trying to figure out when we started that tradition – and so last night, I was googling my own blog to figure it out.
It made me realize that I only remember things if I blog about them (seriously!) I stumbled across this post about sleep that I wrote in Feb. 2009 – almost seven years ago! I was laughing when I read the post because I’ve been staying up late with Ellie while she gets over her cold, and I thought to myself: the more things change, the more they remain the same.
In March, I will have been writing this blog for TEN YEARS! Yes, 10 Years! I blog to remember all the things that happen in our family -and I love it. Blogs have changed a lot over the last 10 years – and I just keep doing what I do because I love it. I just love it…
Anyhoo – All that reminded me that I want to jot down a few things in the upcoming week that I want to remember. Like when Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough made a special video for Paprika. Or, the drawing that Paprika gave Bindi that is going to be hung up in the Green Room at the Australia Zoo! I wasn’t going to blog about it – but then I was like…if I don’t, I really won’t remember it! Maybe it has something to do with my sleepless nights…ha!
Also…I am going to blog SOON about a very special project I’ve been working on for months and months that takes up A LOT of my time. I wrote a book (two books, actually!) – and I’m still working on them. They’re Middle Grade novels (for kids ages 9-13)- and it’s been so much fun writing them. I hope to send one of them into the world next year. I’ll write more about that later…writing has become my “other baby” – you know, when I’m not taking care of my actual babies. 🙂
Speaking of, how did THIS baby turn 10 Months old?! She is all joy all the time. I just love her to pieces…
