Mr. M has been home (not at work) since Friday night! I know to a lot of people, this may seem normal – but in our family, it’s not! Mr. M regularly works about 100 hours/week (not joking) and he has pretty much had that same work schedule since we got married in 2003 – so I never take it for granted when he is home.
I often forget how amazing it is having him here. He is my most favorite person on the planet (truly) and I kind of live for our times when he is home! 🙂
We go very long stretches of him being gone working all the time, and me taking care of the kids from sun up to sundown.
And so when I have even an hour to myself, it is BIG to me! I am really grateful. I should probably hire someone to help me on a regular basis with the kids, but that’s never really worked out. Anyhoo- I cherish him being home SO MUCH. And so do the girls (obviously)!
On Sunday, he took the girls to the beach for a little daddy date! I really wanted to go but there was NO way I could go. The distance from the parking lot to the ocean requires a long walk through the sand – and that’s just not something I can handle at this point! So – they went, I stayed home – and I asked that they text me lots of pictures. And they did! How great is technology sometimes?
The girls had the BEST day at the beach! They even saw a baby sea lion on the rocks. Don’t worry – the sea lion was fine. He actually had a tracking device on his fin and a radio on his back – so I am pretty sure he was being monitored and followed by scientists. The girls got pretty close to him and thought seeing him was just the neatest thing EVER!
They played in the ocean, collected seashells, and built sandcastles…
They even found some smooth sea glass – simply gorgeous!
Violet building sand castles:
So, while they were on this epic adventure, I was home. Except, you know how when your family is home all the time on the weekends, the house can get disastrous? I was so behind on laundry and picking up and dishes, etc. So, while they were gone at the beach, I cleaned up the whole house!
Yes – I know – I should get someone to help me clean – but yea…that’s never really worked out for me either! I have a system, and it’s a pretty good one – but I just have to keep up with it.
I was feeling okay, so I decided to throw some laundry in, and then that led to me doing the dishes, which led to me cleaning the bathroom…you know how it goes. 😉 An hour and a half later, I was thinking: I probably shouldn’t have done all that!
So, the house was spotless, but I was in MAJOR pain. Like crazy contractions, and feeling like my water was going to break at any second! Just pain, pain, pain.
Those contractions persisted ALL night and I was up until about 6am thinking I was going to have the baby anytime. But – since my dad’s not arriving until tomorrow (Tuesday) – I was willing myself NOT to have the baby until he gets here!
I was envisioning us taking all the kids to labor and delivery last night – or having Mr. M drop me off and having me deliver the baby by myself without him there. No thanks! (Not if I can help it!)
Paprika (last night) showing me one of her shells she found a the beach:
Well, I can honestly say that I have lived through another night of being pregnant. I know if I do go to the hospital today, it’s not the end of the world. I am drinking lots of water and trying to stay off my feet. Anytime after tomorrow afternoon is good to have the baby! Haha!
One good thing that happened is that while I was contracting like crazy last night, I packed my hospital bag! So, in the event we need to go quickly, I will have face soap and fresh socks.:-)
What else has been going on?
After the beach last night (Sunday), Mr. M took the girls to Baskin-Robbins for ice cream. Such a treat! I didn’t ask for pictures…so…I didn’t get any. Haha!
On Saturday, Mr. M ran to Target to get a few things. I asked him to pick up some nail polish, since the last bottle I bought was 10 years ago and it was…gross. LOL!
I just asked him to get a bottle of pink or blue – or anything really – and he texted me a picture of pretty much every bottle in the store, just to make sure he got the right color.
I was laughing so hard! It was a very sweet moment. And yes, I was cracking up at the ridiculousness of it all. It’s the little things that make you laugh in marriage…truly!
We finally agreed on two colors: pink and purple – you can see them in the last square on the bottom right:
When he got home with the nail polish, we decided to give the girls their first ever pedicure right then! Ginger and Violet were both so excited. Ginger (5) wanted her nails alternating pink and purple.
Paprika (8) declined getting her nails done because apparently, I painted her toenails when she was almost 2 (about 22 months old, I guess?) – and she remembers it vividly. I guess it was super traumatic for her (she said the smell was overwhelming) – but of course, I didn’t remember it until she told me about it! Amazing how the simplest parenting decisions can leave an impact.
Violet (3) was the first one to get her nails done, and decided on purple. Then, when she saw Ginger’s pink/purple pattern, she decided next time she would change to that!
The little girls had such a great time getting their pedicures – and even told Mr. M he could open his own nail salon. Haha!
So, that’s the news! Hopefully I will not be up all night long again – not sure how many of these all night-contraction sessions this body can handle. 🙂
