Hope you had a wonderful weekend! Sunday was Mother’s Day, of course. I have mixed feelings about Mother’s Day because it tends to leave so many people feeling left out (for lots of reasons). And, of course, I always miss my twin daughters in Heaven especially on this day…and the fact that my own mom, stepmom, aunt, and Grandma live so far away! So, I try to make the best of it and just have low expectations for the day…which always helps!
Also, I try to stay off social media on holidays when I know I’ll be alone with the kids…it helps me to not be a “compare-bear” – as I like to say. I really do think it’s true: Comparison is the thief of joy.
Mr. M had to work on Mother’s Day – of course – and he didn’t get home from work until after Midnight! So, it was a pretty “normal” day of mothering for me – the 24/7 job that I love and appreciate so much!
I know it won’t always be this way – being with my children all the time – so I appreciate it now! The best Mother’s Day present is the chance to spend it with my children. I mean that, truly! And the girls were really sweet to me – they made me cards on their own, picked me flowers, and kept telling me how much they loved me all day. It doesn’t get any better than that!
Earlier in the week, Paprika and I went on a date to Barnes and Noble! She wanted me to take her to see Zootopia in the theaters again. But, she’d seen it three times already…so I said let’s just wait a few weeks for it to come out on Amazon! 🙂
At the Cafe:
I love going into Barnes and Noble and finding books that my friends have written! This one is by Katherine and Jay Wolf and it JUST came out!
Mr. M and I met Jay and Katherine in 2005, I think! Maybe 2006? Anyway – it was a few years before Katherine’s massive AVM stroke – and it has been so amazing to see the journey their lives have taken in the past eight years! This is their website, in case you want to read more about their story…
(I know I’ve written about Jay and Katherine before on my blog – but I am not going to go digging in the archives at this hour – it’s 3:30am right now!)
Me and Paprika hanging out in the Kids’ Section at Barnes and Noble where we read…you guessed it…books about Zootopia! Paprika is obsessed!:
I took the girls to the park a bunch this weekend and last week. I pretty much take them to a park every day that we don’t have gymnastics! It’s so good to get outside for a few hours of fresh air and playtime! I have a bunch of different parks that I rotate – so we never get tired of going to the same places. It’s always something a little different…
Violet (4) and Ginger (6) looking up at the clouds and figuring out what the cloud shapes look like. They “saw” so many animals!
I am so grateful for the friendships my girls have. They love each other SO MUCH. They want to sleep wrapped around each other (and they often do).
That is a wonderful Mother’s Day gift, don’t you think?!
Oh, and just a funny thing – Miss Violet (4) told me that the day after Mother’s Day is Daughter’s Day! 🙂 I thought that was pretty cute!
