My sweet little Ellie Belly is 8 Months Old! I call her Ellie because if you put Ellie with our last name, Finn – It becomes: EllieFinn. Just say that three times fast. Pretty cute for a nickname, right?!
Miss Ellie is SO loved by her sisters. Everyone wants to be the lucky one who will get to hold her, play with her, talk to her, and sing to her. Paprika (9) and Ginger (6) are at ages when they can really help out – and they do! Violet (3) wants to play with her and she is such a sweet big sister to her.
Ellie thinks her name is “Chubby” because Violet will always say to her: Chubby Chubby Chubby. Chubby Chubby Chubby. Who is Chubby? You are chubby! You are my chubby chubby baby. Chubby!!!
It’s a little refrain Violet sings over and over to her with great enthusiasm all day long. So, I am sure that sweet little Ellie thinks her name is Chubby. (Violet thinks it’s a great compliment, by the way!)
Ellie is sitting up for long stretches now. Until a few weeks ago, she would sit like a tripod and fall over if you sat her up. But now she sits just fine, and she even gets down on her belly on her own from sitting.
She can scoot herself backwards, and she’s starting to crawl! She’s really strong. She weighs about 30 pounds so she’d have to be strong. 🙂
She loves to be in the middle of everything. The only time she gets upset is if she feels like she’s missing out on something, and she wants to be part of it. Ginger (6) loves to read to her, and play with her, and hold her. Basically, Ginger wants to be her mom. 🙂 Ginger will always say to me: When I have MY baby, my ONE baby, this is how I will do things. And it’s always the opposite of whatever I’m doing! Ha!
Paprika (9) is very close to Ellie. The other day I was washing my face, and I asked Paprika to sit with Ellie for a minute so I could get ready. I came back and found them taking selfies on my phone! I treasure this picture – two peas in a pod:
The other morning, both Paprika and Ellie woke up early after going to bed late and not sleeping much all night. I set them up reading while I laid down on the couch next to them and listened. Paprika got through about 5 books before Ellie was ready for something else.
Ellie is always right with us, wherever we go. We have gymnastics a few times/week now for Ginger and Violet. Ellie is our little sidekick – she’s always there, taking it all in, and being a supportive little sister:
Ellie LOVES to be carried and held. She’s just starting to want to explore more on her own (crawling and sitting) in the past week or two. For the most part, this is exactly how she’s happiest – right up close to me! You would think I’d be tired of carrying her, since she’s 30 pounds – but you’d be wrong! I am never tired of carrying her – I just love it. I know it’s a season that passes all too quickly. 🙂
She nurses mostly in the carrier. She’s still 100% breastfed. We’re very slowly introducing solids to her as she shows interest, which so far – she’s really just interested in nursing. I’m definitely not in a rush with her, and I will let her take her time to grow and develop as she shows that she’s interested and ready!
She is so happy, I just can’t even describe what a joy she is! She is a happy, funny, carefree baby. Being her mom is a tremendous pleasure, and one I never take for granted.
When we’re out and about, she naps in the baby carrier. She loves being snuggled up – and she actually gets some rest this way! She’ll be looking around and start to drift off to sleep. And when she does, this is my view:
At home, I hold her for naps as much as I can. I set the girls up with some quiet time activities and independent reading – and then, I get to relax with Ellie for a stretch. It is a highly restorative time of day for all of us. Although the big girls don’t nap, they love their quiet downtime, too. It helps us all recharge:
Ellie has ONE tooth – and another one coming in soon (I can feel it popping through). She’s taking it pretty well – and I just give her extra cuddles when she gets fussy.
This is us last week at the Aquarium of the Pacific in the bathroom. I was waiting on the other girls and took a picture of us. I had to laugh afterwards because I remember all the belly pictures I took in the mirror when I was pregnant with her. That seems like yesterday – and also almost a lifetime ago! I can’t remember a time when she wasn’t here with me- it feels like she’s always been part of our family.
Another mirror picture at gymnastics. We have a few hours of waiting when we’re there – so we try to find ways to pass the time! Ha!
Paprika and Ellie at gymnastics, hanging out together. I’m not sure if it’s Paprika entertaining Ellie or the other way around. 🙂
And of course, Ellie is crazy about her Daddy. She can make him laugh like nobody’s business. At 8 months, she is quite the comedienne.
Miss Ellie is pure joy, I tell you! She is absolutely perfect to me – and our whole family revolves around this sweetheart. She has captured all of our hearts, and we are SO lucky to be in her family. She is my dream come true. For real. (Okay, I’ll stop – but I don’t want to – I just love her so and I’m so grateful for her)…
