My sweet Ginger Bear turned 6 and a half on Friday! We celebrated by going to the beach and collecting sea shells. Then, we came home and made chocolate chip cookies – yum!
Ginger with her sisters on her half birthday:
Ginger – Here is a little bit of what you’re up to at age 6 1/2:
You are devoted to your mama (me) and your family. You love to make paper dolls and gifts out of paper using scissors and tape. You are creative and you love to craft. You are obsessed with the guitar! You really want to learn to play the guitar – it’s all you can talk about lately.
You want to be a doctor when you grow up. When we had the flu a few weeks ago, you were so mad you got sick because you said YOU wanted to be the one to take care of everyone and practice your doctor skills.
You are a vegetarian. You say you’re like a Panda Bear because Pandas are vegetarians, even though they don’t have to be. You love to eat healthy food, and you often turn down food because it has too much sugar. Your favorite things to eat are plain toasted potato buns, strawberries, and ice water.
You love reading poetry and short, emotional stories like Mama Loves, You Are My Heart, and all the books by Nancy Tillman. You love to read about artists – we just read about Picasso together and then on Sunday, we went to the art museum to see some of his paintings. You wanted to know all about his Blue Period and why he was so sad…
You are extremely loyal and honest, and a true friend. You are sometimes (often?) intense, emotional, sensitive, and serious. You are a very deep thinker, and nothing gets by you – nothing! You learn everything very easily and you are a smart girl. It is quite easy to homeschool you because you are naturally curious and you are a puzzle breaker. I’ve said that since you were a baby – you have always been able to figure out things nobody else can, and you see the logic behind everything. You’re the first one to point out loopholes – and so learning for you (so far) has come pretty easily. My biggest challenge is finding ways to challenge you without frustrating you (I guess everyone who teaches can say that).
For school, you would be a young first grader this year! You are leaps and bounds ahead of a first grade curriculum. I am so grateful we are able to homeschool you because I cannot imagine how bored you would be learning to read and do simple math right now. You would also probably have a very big head because you’d think you were so much cleverer than everybody else. As it is, you get to work at your own pace – and you are not behind or ahead. You’re just YOU! You can read big words and speed ahead in curricula if you want to – and then you can also climb trees and spend your days doing gymnastics and painting and playing piano.
Your favorite people in the world are your mom, your dad, and your sisters. You are super close to me, and you love having alone time with me. Your favorite thing in the world is going on a one-on-one date with me! I love our alone times, too!
You like to dress in pajamas and slippers – which is basically how you’ve liked to dress since birth! You also love to wear my bathrobe around the house. You also love your glasses (no prescription) – and you don’t like to wear anything in your hair. No bows or ponytails – you say: I want to wear my hair flat, please.
This is you at Barnes and Noble a few weeks ago on one of our”dates” – this outfit is pretty typical, right down to the slippers! 🙂
You love dogs and you’re crazy about DogCraft, which is a YouTube series based on Minecraft (it’s appropriate for kids). You don’t watch TV or movies – but you could watch DogCraft for hours. Also, you hardly use an iPad or computer at all except to play Minecraft. You love building worlds in Minecraft with Paprika…you two call it your: Sister Time. You guys also make little movies together and basically, anything Paprika wants to do – you will do! You love getting attention from your big sister. 🙂
You love to play the piano, and you love gymnastics! Right now you have Ryan as your piano teacher once/week. For Gymnastics, you have Coach Debbie on Wednesday and Coach Dmitri on Mondays. You and Violet are in the same gymnastics classes together – and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
You are very close with Violet – you two play together for hours and hours every day. You paint together, draw, have tea parties, and play pretend all day long. Your love for your sisters runs deep. You rarely (if ever) argue – and you love to play together. Sometimes I’ll peek in on you playing without you knowing because it warms my heart to see how well you get along.
You are crazy about Baby Ellie, who you call “Chubby” – you say she is the cutest, chubbiest baby sister in the whole world. You are so proud of her, and you love to play with her and make her laugh.
Your biggest desire is to feel special and loved, and I hope that you know how special and loved you are! You are such a gift to our family, and I thank God every single day for you. You are my heart, my love, and my joy! I am so grateful for these 6 1/2 years with you, sweet Ginger. You are everything, and everything is you…
