I hope you’re enjoying your Memorial Day weekend! Here’s a little of what we’ve been up to lately. 🙂
Dancing With The Stars finished last Tuesday (almost a week ago)! Mr. M was working 80-100 hour weeks up until the Finale, which meant I was holding down the fort here solo pretty much. His next show he’s working on is Bachelorette/Bachelor In Paradise. I love watching it to see what’s going to happen next, so I never let him tell me spoilers. Ha!
Right after DWTS wrapped, Mr. M went on a guys’ trip with his buddies from high school. It’s his tight core group of friends that he’s had since childhood. He flew up to Seattle to see his friend Rey, and then they drove to Oregon to meet up with the rest of the guys. So, he was gone on his trip for five days…
The girls were pretty sad that he was leaving for a week (especially after hardly seeing him during Dancing) – so I told them we would have a week-long Girls’ Party! 🙂
We went to the beach one day and the big girls made themselves into Sand Mermaids. Baby Ellie wanted nothing to do with the sand, so I held her. Maybe next time. LOL
Violet (4) practicing her dance moves by the water:
While Mr. M was out of town, we did all the same stuff we usually do, too! I took the girls to gymnastics. (I have a lot more to tell you about gymnastics – but I’ll save it for a later post.):
Baby Ellie (15 months) has stopped taking naps in the Ergo at gymnastics! Boo! So – instead, now I usually take Paprika (9) and Ellie on a mini-date while The Middles are at gymnastics! Sometimes we just go get Burger King and sit in the car and talk. Paprika is now 5 feet tall and weighs 73 pounds! So, she gets to eat French Fries whenever she wants. Ha! She’s in a major growth spurt at the moment.
Then, I’ll take Ellie for a walk around the parking lot in the baby carrier – and she’ll sometimes nap for 15 minutes. That’s usually just enough of a nap to see her through until bedtime – and make her a crabby goose, too! But what can you do? 🙂
Peaceful napping girl – if only for a brief moment!:
The girls have been playing me lots of beautiful songs on the piano. Paprika is practicing Fur Elise for the upcoming recital – the real, full version. Not the one I played as a kid – haha!
Ellie is crazy about the piano! On this day, she sat and played for close to an hour. No kidding! She was so pleased with herself:
One of the downsides of having Mr. M gone was that we missed him! The girls all really missed him in their own ways. Ginger (6) wore his favorite Mr. Robot T-Shirt all five days he was gone and would not take it off except for gymnastics.
Violet (4) cried a lot at bedtime, but otherwise was her sunny self mostly.
Ginger (6) had a horrible time sleeping, and told me that she was going on a sleep-strike until he got back. Now, if you know Ginger, you know that you really can’t change her mind and she is extremely stubborn. When she makes up her mind about something, that’s it!
So, basically, the girls didn’t sleep much while Mr. M was away. I tried SO HARD to get them to sleep, but especially Ginger wasn’t having it. Most of the nights he was gone, she sat up in bed until daylight (7am) – and then would fall asleep for about two or three hours. She also insisted on keeping all the curtains open – so there was tons of natural light in the morning.
I tried to let her sleep in, but she really slept very little – as did the other girls. Even when he’s working long hours, Mr. M still usually sees the girls before they fall asleep. So, I think that was the hard part for them – they thought if they waited up, he would eventually come home!
We also took lots of walks this week. Violet (4) loves to pick up leaves on our walk and then make lots of art projects at home with them. I’ve started having her bring a Trader Joe’s bag with us, so I’m not carrying a hundred leaves on the walk home! Haha.
So, that was our little girls’ week together! Mr. M had a great time – and I know it’s important for him to get away and spend time with his friends. We missed him, and we’re glad to have him home!
And I’m glad the girls will get some sleep! Haha.
Oh – one more thing! Usually. I never watch TV with the girls. But for our Girls’ Party week, I decided what the heck! The girls and I watched A LOT of HGTV’s Beachfront Bargain Hunt, Lakefront Bargain Hunt, Half-Priced Paradise, and House Hunters International (all on Netflix). It was one show we all could agree on – LOL. It was so fun just to kick back and watch all these commercial-free shows together.
The funny part was that they got SO invested in which house the people would choose. Violet (4) cried so hard when one of the couples chose a different house than the one she’d picked. She said: Don’t they realize they’ve made the biggest mistake of their lives?!
She couldn’t get over it. May have had to do with the lack of sleep – haha – but it was SO cute anyway!
