Happy Weekend! It’s almost Halloween. It’s finally starting to feel a little bit like Fall here. The girls are SO excited about their costumes this year.
Paprika (10) made her own costume. She’s going as Kubo from the movie Kubo and the Two Strings (her favorite movie). She made the whole costume herself with Evan’s help. I searched online to see if I could buy a ready-made Kubo costume, but I couldn’t find one! It turns out that making the costume has been a lot of fun for Paprika, and a lot less expensive, too!
For the jacket, Evan and Paprika spray painted gold onto a red jacket with the cardboard stencil of a beetle they made. I got the red jacket on Ebay (of course).
They also made a shamisen (traditional Japanese instrument) out of wood. I’ll have to get pictures of it once it’s done. It’s still in progress and looking good! 🙂
Ginger (7) is going as a Blue Butterfly. She wanted the costume from the Chasing Fireflies catalog (why do they keep sending me it?! I try to recycle the catalog before the girls see it, but they always see it).
Anyhoo – I wasn’t about to pay those exorbitant prices for the costume. So, we put together our own. She’ll wear this dress, plus blue wings, and then a crown/headband we made with paper butterflies. It’s really gorgeous. Here is a preview of just the dress:
Violet (4) is going as Queen Elsa. I got her a new dress for it, even though Paprika went as Elsa two years ago. Paprika’s dress was a size 10 (it was huge on her then, but it fits her perfectly now!) Thankfully, nobody wants to be Elsa right now besides Violet, so we got this costume for a song. She’s very happy with it!
And last, but not least, Ellie (21 months) is deciding between a ladybug and a mermaid. This is her mermaid costume (it has a tail in the back). I had to make sure to get something that doesn’t cover her head – because she would NOT be having that. And also, I had to make sure the costume wasn’t too warm since it can be in the 80s here on Halloween sometimes.
Thankfully, I had this costume in the garage and it had never been worn! I bought it on Ebay for Ginger when she was 2 years old, but she flat-out refused to wear it. She was really adamant about it! Ha! So, thankfully, it’s getting used now. 🙂
It’ll be fun to see their costumes finished on Monday. Hopefully we can get a picture of the girls all together. The big girls will be at the Halloween Show of Dancing With The Stars all day with Evan, and I’ll be hanging out with just toddler Ellie. That’s going to feel like a vacation for me. Ha!
