Oh my gosh, what a week!
Mr. M went back to work on The Bachelor on Monday – and we miss him already! It was so great having him off work over Christmas.
The Season Premiere of the show was on Monday (Bachelor Ben) – so he’s been working extra long hours show-building, and I’ve been holding down the fort here at home.
On Monday, we had Piano Lessons for Paprika (9) and Ginger (6). I don’t know why this picture is so small – so just bear with me. They had a few weeks off Piano Lessons over the Break, so it was good to be back.
Ginger and Violet (4) had Gymnastics twice this week. It was raining so hard, I almost didn’t take them. I know that makes me sound like a wimpy Southern California girl – but seriously. It was raining sideways. It was raining so hard that rain came in under our doors.
Thankfully, when we had to drive over to gymnastics, there was a little lull in the weather. So, we got there only half-soaked. Ha!
Speaking of rain, El Nino has come to visit us. We are getting SO MUCH rain – it is fantastic. It’s still not enough to fix the drought, but we’ll take whatever we can get. Our yard flooded two days this week – and I thought we might have to pump the water out.
On the first day it rained, Ginger woke up and was so excited that she ran outside in the pouring rain and danced around for ten minutes. She got so soaked! She was laughing and dancing. It was the best.
Here she is in her pajamas, with her beloved Panda Bear jacket (that she calls Pandy):
All the rain has meant we’ve stayed home a lot this week! The Christmas decorations are still up – I love how cozy they are. I will probably take them down over the weekend, since Ellie (11 months) is crawling so fast now, and she’s so curious. She wants to climb the tree. Can you blame her?
I caught Paprika reading books over breakfast one morning, still in the Holiday spirit. Paprika reads all the time – all day, every day if she could. So, during this cozy week, we’ve done a lot of reading together.
Oh – that reminds me – Violet (4) is reading now! I got out the Bob Books and she’s working through them. I bought the whole set on Ebay (used) when Paprika was a toddler – and that was a good investment. It gives them so much confidence to know they can read things on their own, even if they are simple books.
This week, we’ve been watching documentaries since we got a TV for Christmas. I know, right?! After ten (plus) years of not having a television, we bought one. It’s nothing fancy – but it was time. We don’t get broadcast – and thankfully, we don’t need it. We have Netflix and that seems to be more than enough right now.
Mr. M and I watch shows together after the kids go to bed – and then during the day the TV is off. However, we’ve been letting the girls watch fun documentaries. For example, today when it was pouring rain, we cuddled up on the couch and watched a documentary about Bears on Netflix. It was so cute – it’s called Bears: Spy In The Woods.
We’ve also been watching Cosmos. Mr. M really loves it and he bribes the girls to watch it with him by letting them eat ice cream. So far, it’s working because every night they say: Can we pleeeease watch Cosmos? Haha.
Rainy days have meant lots of indoor fun. I walked around the corner and found the girls making a big mess in the kitchen. Turns out, they were trying to bake me a cake! Half the flour and all the sugar were gone – but what memories they made. I just love rainy days like these:
