I know, I haven’t been blogging as much lately. I’ve been going CRAZY with my book writing!
Earlier tonight, I published my second book in the LOL Detective Series (more on that later). And, I’ve also published my first full-length Romance Novel (under a pen name), and a non-fiction eBook (under a different pen name). This has all happened in the past two weeks – FOUR BOOKS! – so yes, I’ve been a busy bee! 🙂
The new cover for LOL Detective Club, Book 2: The Paris Puzzler!
I’ve been working ALL the time when everyone else is asleep, often staying up until 7am (I know) to get stuff done! I have to slow down soon, because I’m only getting about 2 hours/sleep per night and that’s not sustainable. Haha. But, there’s just been so much work to do with the publishing side of the books. It’s not just writing the books – it’s everything else that goes into them on top of the writing (editing, formatting, cover design, publishing, marketing, web design, social media outreach, setting up email lists, html coding, etc….just all kinds of stuff!)
I enjoy the writing side of it much more – but the marketing side of it is important, too! So, it’s a balance. Honestly, I am learning so much – and that’s been really fun for me. I’m working hard on my Romance Novel Series because those are the books people really want to buy!
But, I LOVE my LOL Detective Club Series – and also the other children’s books I’ve written (publishing soon)! So, I don’t want to give up writing those books either.
The girls get SUCH a kick out of reading the children’s books I’m writing – and they’ve started writing their own books, too. It’s really effortless to get them to read (and research!) – and write – when they see me doing so much of it. It’s amazing how children model the habits of their parents.
Which is probably also why they also sleep so little – they learned it from watching me. Hahaha. Joking/not joking. 🙂
But, even though I’m working like a madwoman with my writing and publishing, we’ve still been up to all our usual fun homeschooling antics. I don’t write or do my work at all when the girls are awake. That’s sacred time to me – spending time with them!
I feel like I have ten billion things I could write about that we’ve been up to lately – but I’m just going to write about ONE since this post is getting long…and then I’ll be back with more later. 🙂
On Saturday, Paprika (9) got to go hang out with the one and only, most incredible and magical Mermaid Linden!
As many of you are aware, Mermaid Linden is a HUGE role model and inspiration to Paprika. I’m so glad because Mermaid Linden is such an amazing person with such a generous and beautiful soul!
She was at the 9th Annual Make A Wish Foundation Walk for Wishes in Downtown Los Angeles on Saturday! I was so happy Mr. M was able to take the morning off work to take Paprika to see her! It was such a dream come true for Paprika and she’s been floating on a cloud ever since. 🙂
Earlier in the week, Paprika made this drawing for Mermaid Linden’s niece, Reese, who is battling childhood leukemia. There is never a time when Reese and her family are far from our thoughts. It’s so hard to watch a child suffer through such hardship. If you pray, please lift this sweet family up in prayer. And if you don’t pray, then maybe you could think good thoughts for them? I just want to surround this sweet family with SO MUCH LOVE!
Paprika was able to give her drawing for Mermaid Reese to Mermaid Linden in person on Saturday:
Seeing Mermaid Linden was SUCH a wonderful gift to Paprika. She was so excited and happy, she could hardly speak when she got home!
After they got home from seeing Mermaid Linden, Mr. M had to go into work all day. So, I took the girls to the park for the rest of the day!
You can see Ginger (6) in her fashionable wardrobe! Haha. She’s still wearing Mr. M’s T-Shirts everywhere. She had on the cutest outfit when we walked out the door, but then she started really crying that she only wanted to wear Daddy’s shirt. I said that’s fine – and then I brought her actual outfit with us in the trunk. That was such a good plan because the T-Shirt ended up getting soaked with water! Thankfully, I had a change of clothes for her. What a happy little coincidence!
We had so much fun. We hadn’t been to this park in probably a year (it’s by our old house, so a little bit of a drive).
The girls had the BEST time!
I ended up having a great conversation with a Grandpa who was there with his granddaughter. It turns out he’s managing partner at a huge law firm. At the end of our conversation, he offered me a partner-track attorney position at his firm! With flexible hours and everything. (I’m still licensed to practice law – I’ve kept up my Continuing Ed hours and paid my Bar Dues every year because it’s good to have options!)
I thought he was joking when he offered me the job – but he was TOTALLY serious.
So, I took a minute to pick my jaw up off the floor and said thanks but no thanks. I love this time of my life staying home with kids SO MUCH – I just can’t put a price on it.
That’s why I stay up all night writing – because I don’t want to miss out on moments like these during the day:
I’m not judging anyone who works outside the home, though. I just feel individually called to homeschool and be home with my kids…but I know it’s not for everyone, and that is a-okay by me! Everyone has their own path in life…
Anyhoo – After the park, I took the girls to McDonald’s for dinner, since Mr. M was working way late (his hours on DWTS are often until midnight or later). I never get them Fast Food, so this was a big deal for them. They were like…what?!!!!
We had this great little meal together and they said I was the Best Mom Ever. Paprika said that this day was one of the happiest of her entire life and that she’d remember it always.
That felt so good! (And yes, I know it’s because she got to see Mermaid Linden that morning! I’m not fooling myself – LOL)
I’ll be back with more soon! Thanks for sticking with me! And if you get the chance, go read and review LOL Detective Club Book 2: The Paris Puzzler! I hope you like it. It was SO MUCH FUN to write! 🙂
