Whew! Where has the week gone? We’ve been up to lots this week – here are the highlights:
Paprika (11), Ginger (8), and Violet (6) all take private piano lessons from the same teacher at the same music studio – which means one day/week we spend about three hours just hanging out together while each takes a turn with lessons. It would be more ideal for the teacher to come to our house – but that’s not how he works! He’s worth it, though…he’s such a wonderful (and patient!) teacher.
It’s always a little bit of a struggle to keep everyone entertained while we wait – but we’ve been doing school work on the iPads, which is pretty fun. Ellie (2) likes to do Starfall, Endless Reader, and Endless Alphabet apps.
The other girls usually read books on their iPads (Reading Rainbow, Epic, FarFaria, Kindle). This week, we decided to try out “Drops” – which is a foreign language app. I got the premium version, since shared between four iPads, it’s worth the monthly cost to me!
Ginger and Violet are learning Spanish on their iPads. I am fluent in Spanish, so I’m learning French on Ellie’s iPad. And Paprika is learning Chinese (Cantonese) and Spanish. So fun!
On our way to piano:
One of our favorite “homeschool breaks” is playing cards and board games together. We were playing Scrabble, but I found an Uno deck in the desk – so that’s been the game du jour!
(P.S. I love seeing Paprika wear my old law school “Law Review” T-shirt. It fits her, but does NOT fit me anymore! Haha.)
Playing cards with Violet during snack-time:
Ginger is on a baking spree! She got a mixer as her “big” Christmas present this year – and she loves it. She bakes something delicious pretty much every day. Our kitchen is in a perpetual state of “Ginger-Ness” because she is very messy when she bakes. But she LOVES it, so I’m willing to overlook the mess and help her clean it up!
Ginger with one of her big messes. She wanted to perfect her “royal icing” recipe – and MAN, it was royally messy! LOL
The good news is that messes like that always get cleaned up – especially when we all work together.
Paprika helping out with the dishes:
Paprika is back at violin lessons. Her new teacher is WONDERFUL! She is very patient, and sweet – and works so well with Paprika. I was so worried when our last teacher (Margo) moved out of state that we’d never find anyone – but I’m happy to report that Paprika’s love of violin has only increased with her new teacher. Win!
Ginger and Violet playing “Mad-Libs” at the table:
Miss Violet (6) helped me cook this baked chicken recipe. Ginger (8) is vegetarian, so she ran from the kitchen screaming when I suggested she help. 🙂
I found Ginger on the couch reading one of the books in my LOL Detective Club Series! It’s one of the many book series I’ve written, and to be truthful – it’s my favorite series. I do enjoy writing romance novels (under pen names) – but there’s something so satisfying about having the girls read and enjoy my work. Obviously, they’re not reading the romance novels – haha! Anyway, the girls ask me practically every day when I will write the next LOL Detective Club Mystery. I have tons of ideas for more books. I’m thinking the next one is going to be set in Mexico and feature Frida Kahlo. The girls are helping me come up with the story, of course!
I took Paprika to the movie theater to see The Greatest Showman (because she REALLY wanted to see it!)
Everyone raves about the movie but I wasn’t a fan! As the credits rolled, I looked up info on my phone about the real P.T. Barnum, and I could not believe how much they glossed over in the story. Really horrible and dark things he did – which were twisted to his benefit in the story. I was disappointed that the filmmakers did that – and so Paprika and I had a nice discussion about it on the way home from the movie theater.
I wish I would have saved my money and not supported the film – but spending quality time with Paprika was good, and she enjoyed it!
Us in the theater before the movie:
Those are a few highlights from our week! We also went Ice Skating, played at the park, Paprika had art class, we went to the beach (again) – and Violet got her professional pictures back from gymnastics! More about all that coming up – next post. 🙂
Hope you have a great weekend and stay warm!
