We have been doing a lot of resting, recovering, and bonding this week. Newborn-hood goes by SO fast and these days are very sweet. We are soaking in every second!
Little Miss had her 1 week well-check today with the pediatrician! I was having a lot of anxiety about going to the doctor’s office today. I do NOT like to bring well-kids to the pediatrician because of the risk of catching something. I had her in a Baby Bjorn, and then covered up with a nursing cover on top and my cardigan wrapped around us. I waited outside in the parking lot while Mr. M checked us in – and I only went in once they called our name. I am sure I looked crazy, but I don’t care. LOL! Mr. M took the big kids to the park during the appointment – so they didn’t have to go inside the office either and instead got to play for an hour. Win-win!
The pediatrician visit went great – she’s gained a pound and grown an inch in a week. Well, I think maybe the original height measurement may have been off because seriously, how could she grow an inch in a week?! She’s over 10 pounds now and 22.5 inches long. The pediatrician gave her a clean bill of health – and we are cleared to not come in until the 2 month check-up, assuming everything is okay until then.
That was SO good to hear – it means I don’t have to have anxiety about the well-check for another 7 weeks. Haha.
Of course, even though there is a newborn in the house, life does not stop! I have been trying extra hard these past few days to give the big girls lots of attention. I was so worried they might feel marginalized with a new baby in the house – and I was especially worried about my sweet, sensitive Ginger (5). Thankfully, the big kids (that’s what I’m calling them now – ha!) have adjusted SO well and there is not one speck of jealousy. I think that has a lot to do with their Grandpa (my dad) and Mr. M giving them so much attention these past few weeks. They are happy girls!
Ginger has been reading me stories and I have been laying down with her at night to go to sleep. I usually get the baby to sleep, then run over and get Ginger to sleep, then right around when Ginger falls asleep, the baby wakes up – so I go back to the baby! It’s musical beds for me at the moment. Haha.
My dad went back to Indiana on Monday – he was here for two weeks! It was great having him here! They did so many fun things while my dad was here. I wasn’t there to take pictures for most of it – so I had to rely on Mr. M to text me pics while I was home with the baby. He did a pretty good job!

I was a little worried about how Violet (3) would adjust to being a big sister since it’s all new to her. Well, I should not have worried! She is the most secure child, I swear! She has not missed a beat and she is so sure of who she is and her place in the family. I think it has a lot to do with how close she is to her sisters, and how loved she feels in general. She has grown up a lot in the past week or so – she just seems so much more mature to me now. I think that’s really hard on ME more than anything – she is doing great! Ha!
Paprika (8) is very excited about the baby and not jealous at all (no surprise there). She is really happy to be a big sister again and wants to be really involved in everything having to do with the baby.

And, of course, they did more everyday Field Trips like going to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription – haha! Even a blood pressure machine can be fun and educational when you’re 8 and 5 years old. 🙂
Everyone loves holding the baby – here my dad is holding her (I think she’s about 4 days old here):
I love it when she’s awake – she is so alert and loves to grab your hand:
She loves to nap just like this:
It’s so funny because when I was pregnant, she used to be awake every night from midnight until 6am. She would kick, have hiccups, and be the most active during those hours. And you know what – now that she’s out – those are still her favorite times to be awake! Haha.
She gets really alert every night at midnight and she won’t go back down until 6am. I’ve been staying up with her all night long. And then she loves to sleep during the day, of course!
Life is very sweet with this little sweetheart. I know I keep saying it – I am just so grateful she’s in our lives and it feels like she’s always been here.
