What do you think of those paint colors? We bought some samples and painted BIG squares on each wall in every room just to see what they look like. I have a preference – but I’m not sharing (yet). I want to hear what you think first. 🙂
Yesterday I went over to the house to check up on things. The old kitchen floor is out and we’re down to the original subfloor (there were three layers of floor on top of that)!
I had all three kids with me (of course) – so you can imagine what it’s like to juggle their safety, making decisions, and working on the house. It’s kinda complicated, to say the least.
The biggest adjustment I’ve had to make – and truly, it’s been an opportunity for growth – is that I can’t do this renovation all by myself. I am very much a DIY’er in all areas of my life (I even cut my own hair) and I have a huge issue asking for help and accepting help. Also, I’m super frugal, so hiring someone to help us is SO hard for me!
But so far, it’s been the right decision to hire a contractor. Mr. M and I were talking the other day about how BEFORE kids, we used to drive from store to store to hunt for the best deal. Or how we would drive three hours to get a screaming score on Craigslist. And…well, that’s just not an option now because we have three little ones who demand so much of our attention and time. Plus, Mr. M works all the time and I homeschool.
When we go to Home Depot, it’s a production. I put Ginger on my back, Violet goes on Mr. M’s back, and Paprika rides IN the cart. My rule is: No feet on the ground at Home Depot! (Otherwise we could get lost in there for years):
I know some people can do a huge remodel like this with their kids underfoot – but for us, it made sense to hire help. I can’t believe it – after all these years, I’m hiring help! What’s next…a babysitter?!!! Gah! 😉
We are still doing a lot of things ourselves – just not the dusty stuff.
Here the girls are at the Appliance Store – they had the time of their lives “playing house” in the store. This must be what kitchen heaven looks like:
Even so, the girls have been getting tired of doing house stuff ALL THE TIME on the weekends. And they’re not the only ones.
So, this past “weekend” – we decided to just FORGET about the new house for the day surprise the girls with a trip to Disneyland! Violet’s second birthday is on Saturday, so we counted it as sort of a birthday trip for her!
Here are some pics from our day. It was just what we ALL needed.
We told the girls after they woke up that we were going to Disneyland. They were so excited:
It was a gorgeous day – and NO crowds. Woo-hoo!
Our Brick (and Devon’s, too). Hi Girls!
Ginger (4 years and 45 pounds) rode on my back for almost the whole day. If I look like I’ve just climbed Everest, it’s because I pretty much did:
Eating lunch by the river:
Chip and Dale are Paprika and Ginger’s favorite Disney characters. Seriously – they try to emulate them and think they are hilarious!
