A few snapshots from our week/weekend.
I took Paprika (11) to the beach last Sunday for an impromptu date. 🙂 Evan was working in Paprika’s bedroom, building her a big bookshelf and reading nook – and we wanted it to be a surprise for Paprika. I’d already taken all the girls to Pier One and Barnes and Noble for the afternoon – but when we got home, he needed more time. So, off to the beach we went!
Ginger (8), Violet (6), and Ellie (3) love looking at all the goodies at Pier One. I have to hold my breath whenever we go in there, hoping no one breaks anything. So far, so good. Ha!
Paprika spent all her time at Barnes and Noble – which is right next door to Pier One. When we met up at the bookstore, she was reading all three of these books. I whipped out my phone and ordered all three from the library for her, and she picked them up the next day! We did get a snack at the Cafe for everybody – so I didn’t feel so bad about not buying the books at the store. With the amount Paprika reads, buying every single book at retail price is not sustainable. The library is our BFF right now. 🙂
Paprika at the beach – after our Pier One/Barnes and Noble trip:
Ellie (age 3) is obsessed with “Cinderella Cheese” – what she calls mozzarella cheese. Maybe she thinks it looks like Cinderella’s hair? 🙂
There are so many great things going on right now with Paprika – this age is just so wonderful and we have the best time together. I caught her reading Harry Potter to Ellie the other night. Ellie was listening attentively as Paprika patiently read to her. Ahhh – melt my heart.
Violet (6) and Ginger (8) comparing which A to Z Mysteries they like the best. I think we own every letter in the alphabet (A to Z plus some bonus ones). I bought most of the books (used) in a lot on Ebay, and the girls love them. Almost as much as my LOL Detective Club books. Ha!
Last weekend, Violet learned to ride a bike! Her old bike was too small for her – so Ginger gave Violet her bike. We told them both we would get them new bikes if they wanted – but they really wanted to share. Incidentally, this Trek bike is one I found at Goodwill when Paprika was 6 – and so it’s now on its third rider in our family! What a good Goodwill find that was!
Evan showing Violet how to lower the seat on the bike:
Evan and Ginger ran through the whole neighborhood, teaching Violet to ride her bike. It’s a good thing Evan has been running for months now, because I think they ran a few miles going around and around the block! Ginger ran behind and video’ed it on Evan’s cell phone.
On the second day of learning, Violet got it – and she can ride pretty well now! She was so proud of herself and happy.
Our garage has become a sort of “club house” for the girls during the afternoon. It is filled with toys, books, and all kinds of fun projects. A neighbor was giving away her loveseat for free – and originally I was going to put the couch in Paprika’s room for her reading nook – but it wouldn’t fit through the front door! So, it went into the garage, and now it’s the best place to sit and read books in the afternoon. It’s nice and shaded, with a breeze blowing in off the ocean.
I can sit there for hours, watching the girls play and read stories. My big plan is to make it into a library for the girls and organize it more – but for now, it’s perfect as it is.
We’ve had some pretty great weather. Violet, Ginger, and Ellie love setting up “pool parties” in the backyard. They play outside so much together – our “recess” is about half of our homeschool day! 🙂 Seriously, though – they are so happy and imaginative in their playtime world. Sometimes I’ll wait to do homeschool subjects with the little kids until the evening because it’s so much easier for them to focus after they’ve had a day full of play and physical activity. Paprika (11) has a lot of subjects – so I usually spread her subjects over the whole day – we start in the morning and take frequent breaks so she doesn’t get overwhelmed. We’ve found a nice pace with it, and everyone is happy and learning!
Those are a few snapshots of stuff we’ve been up to – we’ve also been going ice skating, to the pool, having picnics, playing basketball, and…of course, lots of other things I can’t remember at the moment. Ha! 🙂
