Yesterday, I posted about our Thanksgiving. As we all know, there’s more to Thanksgiving than just Thursday! Here’s a little peek into the rest of our weekend.
Last week, Mr. M went to the Dancing With The Stars Wrap Party – leaving me home alone with four sick kids. I’m hope I’m not being passive aggressive by mentioning that again (haha!) 🙂 Anyhoo – while he was gone, I did a decidedly un-Daddy-like thing and let the kids get out the brand new playdoh and glitter and go to town!
Mr. M has a hard time with the girls making messes – so I am more the “fun” one in that area. I love letting them be creative and paint, draw, doodle, glitter, and even mix up random ingredients in the kitchen to their heart’s content. Since he wasn’t here, I thought it would be a good time to let them go wild with the glitter – and they did!
Here is Mermaid Linden (made by Paprika, age 9):
A Volcano with lava that spells I LOVE by Violet (age 4):
A purple flower by Ginger, (age 6):
When Mr. M got home from the party, it looked like a glitter bomb had exploded in our house. I think we might still be vacuuming up glitter from the carpet when the girls go off to college. Oh well – creativity is always worth it. 🙂
We spent a lot of time at home this weekend, with the girls getting over their colds. Ginger wrote this beautiful book – it made me cry! She writes breathtaking, deep poetry that seems to come out of nowhere.
During glitter-time and all weekend, really, the girls played piano. Ginger is getting so good – she loves practicing her assigned pieces for her lesson, and then she also loves to make up her own songs.
Today she made up a song called Goodnight that lasted for about 20 minutes. Once she gets going, she has a hard time stopping. Ha
On Sunday, we took the girls to the “old school” playground – back from when Paprika was in Pre-K at the local elementary school. It’s like a park and nobody goes there on the weekends. Bliss! I gave Baby Ellie to Mr. M to carry – and as soon as my baby carrier was free, I had lots of requests for rides. So, I obliged (of course). They are only little once…
Ginger (age 6):
Violet (age 4) – She’s still my baby in so many ways!
Ellie was so happy to ride with her Daddy – and be part of the fun when they played hide and seek with the big girls:
On Black Friday, Mr. M took the big girls swimming at our local pool while I stayed home with Baby Ellie. When they arrived at the pool, they were shocked to find they were the only ones there! There were four lifeguards on duty – and no swimmers. I guess everyone was too busy shopping.
Paprika brought her mermaid monofin and pretended to be a mermaid – she had this whole pool to herself. Dream come true for her!
I was kind of glad to avoid the Black Friday shopping frenzy, myself. The whole weekend makes me anxious – I feel like I’m missing out on deals if I don’t shop – but then when I do shop (online) I usually regret it and just wish I’d purchased it secondhand or done without. The whole weekend puts my FOMO (fear of missing out) on high alert – and then I wonder why I feel spread thin.
Next year, I think I’m going to decide well in advance not to buy anything over the holiday weekend – and avoid looking at online sales (where I waste precious time hemming and hawing). Instead, I’m going to spend that time invested in a good book or taking a nap! Much better use of time, yes?
One of the best parts of the weekend was the time I spent walking with Paprika around our neighborhood. One of my favorite pastimes for as long as I can remember is taking long walks. Paprika and I have some of our best talks on these strolls – even when we don’t talk about anything except Minecraft. It’s a way for me to connect with her – and I cherish every single step.
So – that was our little Thanksgiving weekend. I am amazed we are into December already. Mr. M started work on The Bachelor today and I am quizzing him for the inside scoop, but he’s not telling me much. Haha!
