So, I have been blogging a lot this week – in case you missed it, here are a few recent ones:
As I mentioned last week, I am going to focus on one homeschooling topic and/or child for my Weekly Wrap-Up. If I try to talk about everything, it just gets too overwhelming for you and for me. Haha.
This week, Paprika (8) started a new science curriculum and she is LOVING it!
It’s the Standard Deviants Accelerate program- and it’s intended for high school and AP classes. They have a homeschool program – and the moment I heard about it, I was intrigued!
Then, I found out about a SIX MONTH free trial – which is amazing because if you know my kids, you know that they go through curriculum very quickly and they usually are done (either they’re really done or they just FEEL done – haha) after about a month to six weeks max.
These science classes are video-based with quizzes, assignments, and labs – which is great for Paprika, who is a visual learner.
She completed the entire Earth Science class in about five days – it’s supposed to take a semester (or maybe a whole year?! I honestly don’t know). But anyway, she was so enthralled with learning all about everything Earth Science that she couldn’t stop – kind of like how I am when I find a new series on Netflix. Haha.
The way it’s set up is that you get access to ALL the courses you want for 6 months for free- and they don’t even ask for a credit card or billing info, so you won’t be charged anything at the end of the trial. Each class usually costs $25/month – we got access to all 14 subjects, so that’s a savings of $2100! And I paid $0!!! I know – I sound like an infomercial and they’re not even paying me anything. Haha.
Paprika finished Earth Science and she is now doing Biology and Chemistry. She’s having a lot of fun with it – and well…you really can’t beat the price. 😉
Oh, before I forget – here is the link to sign up for the Free 6 Month Promo, if you’re interested. It has been a great supplement to our homeschool this week. I am not sure where we’re going with it – but it’s working for us for now. Like everything in our homeschool, give us a month or two and I’m sure we’ll have moved on to something else. 🙂
We are also doing a few other Science things – like The Magic School Bus Young Scientists Club (we got the monthly subscription to their kits through Groupon).
Speaking of Magic School Bus, Paprika is hooked on the Magic School Bus Chapter Book series- which I didn’t even know existed until a few weeks ago. I mean, I knew about the TV Series, but not about the Chapter Books. I got a great deal for the whole lot of 20 books on Ebay – which was wonderful because they were all missing from our local library! Paprika’s favorite one of the series is The Search for the Missing Bones – it’s one that she’s read multiple times already and she even read it aloud to me once! Haha.
Over the past few weeks, she’s read all 20 books in the Series (I wish there were more)! It’s always so bittersweet when you finish a book series you love – even if it’s just The Magic School Bus – LOL!
And last but not least, I count our park, nature, and beach days as science, too. Wherever we go, we’re always learning! 🙂 Have a great weekend!
