In case you’re wondering, I didn’t fall off the face of the planet. 🙂 Two weeks is the longest I’ve gone without blogging ever (or at least since I started this blog 10+ years ago!) I don’t want to let that happen again. We do SO MANY things that now I feel like I have to play catch-up. So this week, I’ll probably do a few more blog posts than usual. Get ready. Ha!
Today was MY BIRTHDAY! Yay! I really love my birthdays and getting older. It’s just wonderful all the wisdom and self-confidence that comes with age. I wouldn’t change it for anything. I’m excited about the years to come (if I’m lucky enough to get years to come). Life is truly a wonderful gift – and I’m so happy to be part of it, even when it’s hard. So – when I’m having some really hard times, please remind me that I said all that. Hahaha. Seriously, though…remind me! 🙂
Anyhoo- I have been working like a madwoman on my Romance Author career. I have been staying up most nights until 7 am writing, and then sleeping until 10:30 am (when the girls wake up). Sometimes I can’t fall asleep until 8 or 8:30 am (because of insomnia) – so I end up only getting about 2 hours of sleep.
In addition to my romance series, I’ve also been working on my children’s books! 🙂
I’ve got to figure out a better way to get my writing time in, but honestly, there are just not enough hours in the day. Writing is something that takes up a great deal of time – and the only time I have to do it is after the kids go to bed! This is compounded by the start of a new homeschool year – and Ellie being a toddler tornado now that she’s 19 months old. Oh, and her naps are much less frequent. So, I gotta do what I gotta do. I’ll have time to sleep in 20 years. Well, maybe… 🙂
Because of all of this, I think I’m much more present and focused with the girls during the day. I really try to make all my time with them count – and focus on their individual needs.
I’ve been taking them out for individual dates on the days Mr. M is home. Last weekend, I took Violet (4) on a Day Date. She’d been wanting to go to Baskin Robbins, so we did that. Then I took her to the park for an hour. Then we went to Target so she could show me her birthday wish list. Then I took her for a bike ride. And then, I took her for a ride in the toy car around the neighborhood. And then…I needed a nap! LOL. Not really…

Paprika (10) and I have our standing dinner date once/week at Islands. We both look forward to it so much. Paprika loves to talk my ear off about Nancy Drew – she is a Nancy Drew expert! We talk about what Mermaid Linden might be doing and all the great adventures she’s probably embarking on under the sea. I love hearing all the things going on in Paprika’s mind.
Ginger (7) is my constant side-kick and helper. We haven’t been doing many dates alone together (I should change that) – but we have a lot of time together after the other girls go to bed. Ginger usually comes out and reads novels beside me for a few hours while I’m writing. She eventually falls asleep next to me and I’ll carry her to bed. One day last week, my back was hurting, so I couldn’t carry her to bed. She got treated to a nice, early morning dose of sunshine. After that, she decided she’d rather stumble to bed herself when she was done reading. Ha!
Ellie is 19 months now and she’s a force of nature. I love her personality and watching her grow. I’m going to do a post all about her, because she is changing so much every single day. I can’t believe how much she’s changed in the past year.
This was Ellie one year ago exactly (7 months old):
And this is her now (19 months old):
Such a difference!
I’ll be back with more posts later this week – including one about my birthday! It was a good one this year… 🙂
